Making the dream real!

30 December 2009

For the past two years Cate and Hewey have been working extremely hard producing dirtgirlworld out on the farm. This production has been a wild ride which has involved bringing in teams of people to various locations for specific periods of time. From locals as close as 2 kms down the road to working daily with the Canadian co-production partners Decode Entertainment, the pair have had an interesting time adjusting to world clocks, production systems and timeframes.

Cate and Hewey were the beloved “Two Pot Screamers” for fifteen years travelling extensively across the North Coast and beyond to Japan. Their infectious personalities brought them a solid fan base and they were well loved and respected wherever they went. Building that business independently, living the musicians life of working till the wee small hours then getting up to a normal life were the exact skills they needed to be the producers of dirtgirlworld.

dirtgirlworld was a dream that has organically developed. The seed was planted by the two of them sitting on their verandah and it has been nurtured and developed over the last two years while always staying true to the original vision, by not being scared to take a new approach to creating and by being able to laugh at themselves.

dirtgirlworld has been presold to ABC in Australia, CBC in Canada and CBeebies in the UK. These 3 public broadcasters have been a major part of the process and have contributed to the realisation of this dream bringing their experience to the scripts, storyboards and edits.

dirtgirlworld down under

27 November 2009

Getting everyone together in the same place at the same time has always been a bit tricky for the dirtgirlworld big wig team. Three broadcasters in 3 countries, 2 co producers at opposite ends of the world, team members from different states and Cate and Hewey based in the middle of nowhere...when the planets aligned in Nov, the dirtgirlworld producers, broadcasters and investors seized the opportunity and gathered to meet in person for the first time and take some time out from the excitement of dirtgirlworld to float around one of the most beautiful ponds in the planet...Sydney Harbour.

London town and Oo la la land - Sept 09

26 November 2009

Cate and Hewey and their Brand Guardian, Geof Webb, returned recently from a two week non-stop meeting and celebrating extravaganza including launching DGW on board “The Don Juan” in Cannes  and the BBC WW presentation at the sensational Rooftop Gardens in Kensington, London.

Whilst in London, they attended the Brand and Licensing Show to showcase potential marketing opportunities for the series and to research the latest green merchandise available. Cate addressed a packed room full of merchandise companies and challenged them to come up with the greenest products possible. They were amazed at the warm response, the huge posters and the dirtgirlworld recycled bottle bags penetration into the London street scene.

After a full on week in the UK they flew to France to attend Mipcom Jnr and Mipcom. This week was a whirl of meetings and events including dirtgirlworld being nominated for the inaugural Kids Jury Award in the preschool section.

One of the “must attend” events at Mipcom this year was the launch of dirtgirlworld on board the “Don Juan”. Decode Entertainment supplied the boat and the staff and Cate the theme. Cate’s approach to the aesthetics of the launch meant the party was as wholesome as possible matching the all important green and sustainable attributes of the show. Thanks must go to Judy Hackett who came on board the mememe/dirtgirlworld productions train and is supporting Cate with function and event management.  Judy (with some help from her sewing club) created beautiful and simple decorations that include bunting and placemats and name tags created from recycled materials. Mohitos in jam jars, bamboo chopsticks and edible decorations  helped make this a unique night. Each guest left the event having enjoyed a scrumptious organic dinner, with a show bag and a chicken.... knowing their footprint on the planet was being looked after. Dancing continued into the wee hours and much dirtgirlworld love was shared at this beautiful celebration.

Merchantwise...down on the farm

25 November 2009

Getting your head around dirtgirlworld is one thing.

Wanting to join the family is another thing all together.

Inspired by a meeting with ‘Fosters for Change’ in London, dirtgirlworld has adopted an initiation program for companies wanting to work with dirtgirlworld.

Knowing how to walk the walk, plant the seed, dig the hole and ice the organic cupcake were all things that Alex and Lee found themselves doing as part of the Merchantwise ‘down on the farm’ initiation. And they excelled!

Dirtgirlworld is excited to be working with Merchantwise in Australia to extend and enhance the dirtgirlworld experience with relevant, responsible and fun merchandise and licensing opportunities. Anyone who can plant a veggie garden with children’s gardening tools, create Vietnamese rice paper rolls and play guitar all before lunchtime, is impressive!

Universal Pictures....July 09

25 November 2009

On a day that was hot enough to fry an egg on the footpath Cate was doing research....at Universal Pictures...working hard researching the Mummy, Magnolia Lane and the inside of Maggie Simpson’s mouth. After LA she now knows that creating a theme park experience is something that can occupy many hours of headspace in LA traffic jams.

Disneyland place of happy tears ...July 09

25 November 2009

Cate hired a car and without a map or GPS ...what was she thinking...headed south, followed her nose and arrived without incident at Disneyland. Maybe it was all those hours of ‘the wonderful world of Disney’ as a child that called to her but she did not expect to find herself teared up outside a pink castle or blubbering like a baby on the cup and saucer ride. Maybe it was the fact that she never imagined herself at Disneyland, let alone as an adult , totally surrendering and having a blast. It was worth the 40 year wait.

La La Land

24 November 2009

Off again, this time to talk all things dirtgirlworld US, Cate found herself in LA for the first time. Muscle Beach, a wonderful home stay at Venice , crazy hot summer days, discovering the Santa Monica community gardens, pedal power everything and organic raspberries where all delightful surprises. The standard hotel downtown with the best mini bar. ever..they have an umbrella, map of LA and monster rice crispees. With a silver bean bag in the room, DJ in the foyer, girl in a fish tank and retro diner it was a super dose of LA at it's La La best...oh and the meetings were fanatstic too.
