From the creators

We live in the middle of nowhere Australia and are first time TV creators...so you can imagine how excited we are about the success of dirtgirlworld.

We still can't belive it and pinch ourselves most day that so many kids and their families are watching dirtgirlworld every day.

The project has sold to over 110 countries world wide and has been translated into many languages including French, Korean and Polish.

People always ask us what made us think up the idea and so we have popped some thoughts together to explain how it all arrived in our hearts and then  made it to your screens.

 

The mememe office will be closing from Friday 23rd December until Tuesday 3rd January, 2012!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody we have worked with over the last year. Your love and support has enabled us to keep the good ship 'mememe' afloat and we would not have survived without it!

ABC and Screen NSW have come on board with development funding to help the mememe team develop scripts, outlines and artwork for the beautifully devised concept by Tamsin Smyth and Matt Mooney.

The first workshop has taken place and the team are now in the process of writing music and scripts in time for Cate to take to Kidscreen in February.

dirtgirlworld has been recently nominated for Best Animated Series at the 2012 Kidscreen Awards alongside Abby's Flying Fairy School and Babar and the adventures of Babou. Cate will fly to New York  in February to attend and to showcase the teams newest show in development, babyccino!

On the 27th November, Cate, Hewey and dirtgirl attended the ARIA's arriving on the red carpet in three magnificent Cobra's (thanks Brett, Ben and Rob).

 

Super excited here as dirtgirlworld's latest CD, dig it, has been nominated for an ARIA.  The ARIA's take place in Sydney on Sunday 27th November.

dirtgirlworld headquarters is switching off the grid and switching on the sun.

dirtgirlworld is one of the five finalists in the Shaw Rocket Fund Finalist.

The JAPAN PRIZE was established in 1965 by NHK as International Educational Program Contest with the aims of improving the quality of educational programs around the world and contributing to the development and fostering of international understanding and cooperation.

Not that it's all about awards but it is exciting to have dirtgirlworld nominated in two sensational awards at the moment...at home , here in Australia , it's the Logie Awards and internationally, the acclaimed Prix Jeunesse award.

For the past two years Cate and Hewey have been working extremely hard producing dirtgirlworld out on the farm. This production has been a wild ride which has involved bringing in teams of people to various locations for specific periods of time. From locals as close as 2 kms down the road to working daily with the Canadian co-production partners Decode Entertainment, the pair have had an interesting time adjusting to world clocks, production systems and timeframes.

Here's something very dirtgirlworld.

From floating to flinging, dirtgirlworld screened for cast and crew members at the sensational Strike Bowling at Kings Wharf in Sydney.

Getting everyone together in the same place at the same time has always been a bit tricky for the dirtgirlworld big wig team.

Cate and Hewey and their Brand Guardian, Geof Webb, returned recently from a two week non-stop meeting and celebrating extravaganza including launching DGW on board "The Don Juan" in Cannes  and the BBC WW presentation at the sensational Rooftop Gardens in Kensington, London.

Getting your head around dirtgirlworld is one thing.

On a day that was hot enough to fry an egg on the footpath Cate was doing research....at Universal Pictures...working hard researching the Mummy, Magnolia Lane and the inside of Maggie Simpson's mouth.

Cate hired a car and without a map or GPS ...what was she thinking...headed south, followed her nose and arrived without incident at Disneyland.

Off again, this time to talk all things dirtgirlworld US, Cate found herself in LA for the first time.

Making Dirtgirlworld Live

mememe productions have recently begun shooting the first series of dirtgirlworld at Down Under studios, Sydney, Australia.

Cate and Hewey from mememe productions; nee Two Pot Screamers, are proud to announce the arrival of their beautiful baby girl 'dirtgirl'.

Making it Official Back in Cannes at MipTV, Cate and Hewey had the absolute pleasure of entering into a co production arrangement with DECODE entertainment from Canada.

Whether it was gathering together for a cocktail on the DECODE boat, dining together or lapping up the sunshine, MIPTV was a time to say thank you for all the encouragement and support that mememe has received over the past few years.

ABC says yes please

In a giant leap of faith, Hugh Duffy travelled to the Northern Rivers in May to stay with mememe for a month of writing for dirtgirlworld. The Toronto based, Emmy nominated writer, bought a swag full of experience with him.

Head of CBeebies and all round nice guy, Michael Carrington dropped in to hang out with Cate and Hewey for the afternoon.

Cate arrived in Toronto to a city ready to burst…with snow. In the first few days the vista was transformed into a fairytale wonderland of powdery snow and sunshine.

This year's KidScreen summit in a frosty New York was fantastic. Stacks of meetings and positivity driving dirtgirlworld forward into production.

Last year when Hewey and Cate were in Sydney for a meeting at the ABC in Sydney they ran into Juan Mann along the way and, of course, they hugged him.

Another spectacular SPAA conference.

Cate and Hewey travelled to France in October for Mipcom 07.Cannes was at its best with spectacular weather, the sparkling sea and a sensational television market.

We are proud to announce that Daniel Besen has agreed to mentor mememe productions and guide us as we navigate our way through the creative business of producing children's content.

Daniel joins the team and brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and a remarkable generosity of spirit.

James Hackett from Hackett Films who is responsible for the sensational award winning 'Dissociatives' music video clips and Andrew Denton's 'Enough Rope' titles, has joined forces with mememe productions to produce the first ever 'dirtgirlworld' music video.

Cate took a trip to Toronto to check out the town and catch up with some friends.

First port of call was Niagara Falls a very different winter experience and very different from the Niagara Falls we see in the movies. Rather than the 100s of tourists usually found surrounding the falls Cate got to experience this natural phenomenon with just eight other people.With temperatures around -15C and rugged up to the max Cate and Kim Wilson enjoyed the day and took heaps of happy snaps.

SPAA Brunch - July 2006

In late July, Cate headed to Clunes to Cathy Henkel and Jeff Canin’s Hatchling Production headquarters. Here producers from the North Coast region gathered to yak about the possibility of starting a local SPAA chapter. Geoff Brown, the Executive Director of SPAA and SPAA president Trish Lake attended. They talked about current industry issues, chin wagged with each other and munched out on a brunchy feast.

Singing in Heaven

An essential and exciting element of 'dirtgirlworld' is the music. The impetus for the dirtgirlworld project is the initial album and how it was received when released. The industry loved it but more importantly, the kids that have the CD are a passionate, loyal and obsessive gang.

Cate and Aliison have just returned from the 7th Annual Kidscreen conference where they wined and dined and bowled their way around New York. It was Aliison's first trip to the Big Apple, which is evident in the sheer amount of photos she took to capture the two weeks.

Cate and Hewey recently judged the children's music category at the 2005 Dolphin music awards. In 2002 they were awarded the Dolphin for Best Album, for their highly contagious children's album Dirt Girl World. You can purchase the album at www.windsong.com.au.

AFTRS LAMP – OCTOBER 2005
The intrepid mememe team traveled to Victor Harbour for the first AFTRS LAMP residential. Jake, Karl and Cate spent a week with seals, dolphins and penguins delving into the online component of Hit it, Hit it Now!

mememe productions recently launched their newly renovated office. Jenny Lalor from Burberry Productions, executive producer, flew up from Melbourne to enjoy the festivities with some of the local Northern Rivers crew. mememe are now waiting on the arrival of the HiBis satellite dish to compliment their funky new working conditions.

April …landed in London and stepped into every high school history lesson for real! Such a familiar foreign country. A few days to sightsee and for the body to catch up and then on to Nice and Cannes for the conference. Mip Tv!
